A medium-sized breed of dog that is not from Australia but originally from Western Europe, although most of the dogs of this breed are now born and raised in the United States. The breed was brought over to America by the Basque people and they only lived briefly in Australia but there is no connection to Australia at all. The breed has been a staple in rodeos for a long time for their ability to herd stock animals like cattle and horses.
